HFES International Book Drive
What is it?
The HFES International Book Drive provides our student chapter with an opportunity to give back to the Human Factors community by providing donated books to professors and universities in developing human factors programs throughout the world.
History
In 2000 the University of Central Florida student chapter became responsible for coordinating the HFES International book drive. Since then, more than 4000 books, journals, and proceedings have been donated to more than 15 developing nations worldwide. In 2005 we sent donated material to universities in South Africa, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, and Indonesia.
What we do
Our responsibilities include collecting, cataloging, and shipping donated print and electronic material pertaining to Human Factors and related fields. In addition to these tasks we are always searching for developing Human factors programs that might be interested in receiving donations.
How you can help
Each fall we organize an evening book drive sorting party, where we ask for volunteers to help sort and catalogue books in preparation for shipping these books abroad. Stay tuned! Information regarding the specific time and day will be provided at the beginning of the fall semester. In addition to sorting and cataloging we are also always interested in making contact with more universities that would benefit from receiving donations.
If you are interested helping with the fall book sort, know of a school in a developing nation that might be interested
in receiving books, would like to donate books or have any general questions about the HFES Book Drive, please contact:

Additional Request
Because of the positive response from the HFES community in donating books, our limited budget makes it difficult
to ship all of the books we have cataloged. As a result, we currently have an overstock of books that need to be shipped.
If you know of any local companies that might be interested in sponsoring the International book drive for 2006, please contact Mike.
Thanks for your help!
